Given that the Great Ocean Road is one of Australia’s most famous scenic routes, I’m surprised that I didn’t get to it sooner while I was living in Melbourne.
It was one of those “I’ll get to it,” things since I was living in the city. And, eventually, I did get to it. But it was after I moved out of the city and started traveling again.
When my Dad came to visit me in Australia, we decided to do a day trip with an organized tour, which I knew would be rushed and the majority of our time would be spent on the road rather than seeing things but with a limited time, our options were limited as well.
As predicted, I was right. The majority of the time was spent on the tour bus, and the zig-zag road didn’t help my car-sickness (which I never used to get before on long drives).
The day was long and didn’t end until midnight (it was a sunset tour though we didn’t see much of a sunset). I felt nauseous the majority of the time, and the tour guide was way too interested in my life. I would have liked to have properly taken a few days to explore the Great Ocean Road as it’s really exhausting and difficult to get a lot done in a day, but a first impression via tour bus had to do.
I must say it was scenic and pretty.
Have you been to the Great Ocean Road? What was your impression?
Looks so nice! Will definitely have to make it down there at some point.. although i’m not a fan of the sign that remind me i’m living in a place where i’m surrounded by snakes!

It was nice! Though I wish I could have explored it a bit more!
